WOW! It looks like they've done a film version in grand style at last. I saw the stage version in London and here in Philly and loved the cool staging, but having a bigger canvas will be epic!
My hubz is bummed because this is one of his all time favorite broadway shows and he was so excited for the film based on the preview... and then the early reviews came out. Nobody we know liked the movie. If you see it and love it, please let us know!
We saw it last weekend and though it was good, it wasn't close to as awesome as I wanted it to be. I was pretty disappointed in the casting choices, especially Russell Crowe. I will say that the actress who played Eponine, who has always been my favorite character, was awesome--probably because she's done the live shows for years.
All in all, it was watchable and I did cry a few times, but it's definitely better live, and I probably won't be buying the DVD as I expected. :(
Sorry, Abby! The story makes me cry no matter how it's performed, but I did hear Russell Crowe didn't live up to expectations. Bummer. They'll never stop doing live shows, though, right?

Ooh, I saw this at the theatre the other day. Loved it! It looks wonderful.
