Fabulous Friday

So why is today so fabulous?

I finally got the internet hooked up at my house. None of the equipment is where I want it to be yet, but I'm no longer cut off from the outside world. Yea!

I'm hoping to resume my normal posting schedule next week, but I'm still not totally unpacked, so no promises. Of course, I'd much rather blog than unpack boxes, but I'm trying to keep my priorities straight. :)

A couple of things I've noticed about not having internet:

1. I'm capable of keeping my house super clean and staying on top of my laundry. Crazy, I know.

2. Even if I don't obsessively check my email every five minutes, they're still there waiting for me when I do get around to it. (I got a new mobile phone (that I LOVE) a few days ago that notifies me every time I get an email, so I'm not sure if that will be counterproductive on this front or not.)

3. I didn't realize how much of my writing routine revolved around blogging and checking my email. If I got stuck on something or felt like I needed a distraction, I'd just click over to Explorer or Windows Mail. Then I no longer had to worry about whatever it was I was worried about. I think from now on, the internet will be disconnected while I write. For some reason, I'm more productive without it. ;)

4. I'm very reliant on http://www.merriam-webster.com/. Maybe I should buy one of those old-fashioned book-type dictionaries. ;)

5. I really missed all my bloggy friends and the community we have. When I'm having one of those everything-I-write-sucks kind of days, it's definitely nice to be able to go to other blogs and read about other writers' experiences and know that I'm not insane.

Anything you want to share that I may have missed out on?

Have a great weekend, and I'll see you all next week!

  1. yay!! Congrats on being reconnected. I know just how you feel having just been reconnected myself :D And yeah, I've been sitting on the computer all day playing with my blog background instead of finishing the unpacking. Which is just nuts since I really am just about done. Just a few misc boxes and some straightening left. And I just don't want to do it :D I think I'll take out a book and read for the rest of the afternoon and get back to unpacking tomorrow :D

    Welcome back!

  2. And she's back!

LOL, even if I am unplugged I can still find ways to keep from doing the laundry. I'm inventive like that.

Glad to hear you're doing well in the new place!

  3. It's true that email waits. It's hard to wait for IT but it waits for YOU. I guess I should be half so patient.

I'm so glad you've got internet! Welcome back! How are you settling in to the move?

  4. WOW!!! I didn't know you were moving! I got bad about checking blogs in Dec. I hope you are all loving it up there, but sad. Not that we were ever good about getting together, at least we didn't have 1000 seperating us. I really hope this move is want you guys are after. We'll miss you! Email me when you get a chance and give me all the details!

  6. Yay! I'm glad you're back! I'm thinking of disconnecting my internet when I write too. I think I'll try it during this last revision. I want to revise the whole book over 2 days to catch any repetitious phrasing. I can't do that if I'm online too!

  9. YAY! We missed you, too! :)

Man, that is very true about obsessively checking email when I'm supposed to be writing... maybe I should *gulp* turn off the internet while I write, too :S.

  10. Michelle: At this point, I think anything is better than unpacking. Well, maybe not anything. ;)

Tere: Yeah, laundry's not my strong point either, though I don't really have an excuse now.

L.T.: Thanks! It's been a major adjustment, but we're getting there. Lots of snow!

Cheryl: Life just gets crazy sometimes. Good to hear from you!

Jill: I'll have to work on that--but then I'd actually have to leave the house. ;)

Stephanie: A full revision in 2 days? I don't think my kids would ever let that happen. Good luck!

    Shannon: Thanks!

Tricia: Sheesh! Everyone always gets three-book deals while I'm gone. ;)

Becca: Turning off the internet is easy in theory, but when it comes time to do it, we'll see. :)

  11. Congrats on being connected again. And on your big move. Isn't it amazing when you've been gone from the internet for a while, it's still there when you get back?
